75 years of growth

Volys was started in 1946 by the Dewulf brothers on the railway in Lendelede as a chicken slaughterhouse.

Over the years, the activity shifted from chicken to turkey but now Volys goes through life as a manufacturer of healthy food with a specialisation in chicken and turkey.
Thanks to the nutritional values of chicken and turkey, Volys was there very early on when it came to healthy food. For example, there was an intense collaboration with the Slanklijners in the 80s.

The history of Volys is characterised by permanent growth. Meanwhile, more than 400 employees work for Volys, the company has a turnover of more than 110mio € and its activities are spread over three production units.

With the expansion of the capacity with the site in Heule, Volys is ready for the next 75 years of growth.
My smart choice

Volys has never disappointed me: products of the highest quality and an excellent service level. I am already looking forward to the next 75 years and the next innovation.

4 Milestones in the history of Volys

1. Launch name Volys in 1957

The company name Volys was born in 1957. The first 11 years of its existence Volys went through life as 'Pluimveeslachterij Dewulf-Broeders'. In the initial phase, the emphasis of the activities was on slaughtering and marketing fresh broilers. Main customers were located in the Belgian Ardennes and France, which inspired the founders to find the new name Volys - Volaille de la Lys.

2. Fine meat products based on poultry in 1974

This inspired Volys to the creation and industrial production of the Turkey Ham. The first cold meat product based on poultry was an instant hit and quickly conquered the European market. The familiar square shape and the spherical motif still make it an iconic product. The first cold meat product based on poultry was an instant hit and quickly conquered the European market. 3. Launch Culinary Preparations in 1994

As creative entrepreneurs, innovation has been part of Volys' DNA since the early years. The range has been (and is) continuously expanded with new products with unique added value. Ease of use is central to this. The launches of the culinary preparations completely fitted into this picture. Pre-cooked culinary products based on turkey. Super tasty, very handy and above all safe.

4. Expansion of capacity with a third site in 2020

After Volys took the production facility in the Oudstrijderslaan in Lendelede into use in 1963 (previously production was located at the station in Lendelede) and in between acquired Herrijgers in Hoogstraten, the new site in Heule was (partly) taken into use in 2020. The logistics operations are managed in a state-of-the-art state-of-the-art factory. Further expansion of the activities in Heule is planned in the current years to enable the steady growth of Volys.

Volys' Pavé Mignon has become a household name in the professional culinary world.

This cobourg of the turkey thigh saw the light of day in 1995 and was widely praised and appreciated for its authentic taste and tender & juicy texture.
Ease of use was the third big advantage: butchers use it to prepare the most delicious dishes in no time at all, and for commercial kitchens the large pack was a gift from heaven: just go into the combi steamer and a tasty cooked piece of turkey is ready immediately.

Since the start in 1995 many derivatives saw the light of day. Based on both chicken and turkey, Volys offers a wide range based on Pavé Mignon technology.

Meanwhile, Volys product developers are working on a new technology with even better products. Keep an eye on our news section ;-)
